Description

Native to South America, the Peperomia obtusifolia is a perennial flowering epiphyte plant species. In its natural habitat, it grows within high humidity forest areas making use of the nutrients provided from tree debris and the natural tropical environment. There are a number of cultivars including the dark green-leaved, variegated, and the Peperomia obtusifolia ‘Albomarginata’ that displays yellowy gold and green patched leaves. The baby rubber plant can flower that are non-showy. White flower spikes with small white flowers may appear from spring-fall that grow 8 cm in height above the leaves, but as mentioned they are non-showy and not the attractive feature of this Peperomia. The primary attraction as an ornamental plant is the foliage and its growth habit is bushy in appearance. Glossy palate leaves with petioles grow close to the main stems that are partly rounded and grow a few centimeters in length. Leaves have a fleshy succulent look and feel about them and the thin stems are non-woody. Most will grow up to 25-30cm in height and must be pinched out at the tips to direct, stop, and encourage growth.

The Baby Rubber Plant, with its thick, glossy green leaves, is an easy-care, attractive and fast-growing houseplant.Peperomia obtusifolia Green looks just like a miniature Rubber Plant, and hence its common name. Baby Rubber Plant is a bushy, upright plant with thick stems and fleshy, glossy, cupped leaves. It has a compact, spreading nature and is particularly suited to growing in low or fluorescent light, making it perfect for offices and shady spots. It forms narrow spikes of off-white flowers on red-brown stems. Radiator Plants are very much on trend, they are easy to look after and look great displayed on desks or small tables.

Sunlight – It prefers & does best in bright natural light – moderate or medium.

Watering – In the summer it’s once a week & in winter, every 2-3 weeks.

Plant Care – You could mist your Peperomia obtusifolia a couple of times a week if your home’s dry & you think it needs it.  Another option would be to fill a saucer with small rock & water & then set the plant on top of that. The rock keeps the roots from submerging in the water.
