Description

The Dumb Cane plant is a strong species that will thrive in any light conditions other than direct sunlight. It’s easy to care for style and resilience to neglect to make it a wonderful house plant. Dieffenbachia sanguine (scientific name) plants will grow up to six feet tall and are known for their wide, bushy leaves. Dieffenbachia Seguine is a very popular house plant due to its easy-going nature. Plants that receive too little light or too little water will simply not grow as quickly as plants that are given proper care. This native to the West Indies will flower in the right conditions, but these flowers are unimpressive. The beauty of the dumb cane plant comes from the unique pattern found on every leaf. Each plant features leaves that are yellow near their vein, abruptly turning a dark green toward the edge of the leaf. This transition is random, even within the same leaf, creating ribbons and spots of yellow and green along the leaf’s body. These leaves grow out of a central stem system. Each leaf will ultimately reach around 20 inches (47 cm) long, and 10 inches (25 cm) wide.

Sunlight – The plant prefers dappled shade or indirect light.

Watering – A large dieffenbachia might need to be watered twice a week, but in the winter, cut back on the water.

Plant Care – This plant likes fairly warm conditions, from 65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. For best results, feed regularly (every 4 to 6 weeks) with a balanced, diluted fertilizer, such as a 20-20-20.

Caution – Dieffenbachia leaves contain needle-like calcium oxalate crystals called raphides, which can cause severe burning and swelling of animal tissues, both external and internal.
