Description

Paddle Plant is an unusual-looking succulent that grows in a rosette of flat, round leaves. It adds bold texture and form to a succulent dish garden. The gray-green leaves grow to about 6 in (15 cm) long and will become tinged in red when exposed to the sun. Mature plants may produce a spike of fragrant, yellow flowers in spring. These South African succulents belong to the Crassulaceae family, an extremely varied group. You’ll find Kalanchoe thyrsiflora for sale by many names: Paddle Plant, Desert Cabbage and Flapjack Plant are the most common. Yellow flowers come out around spring in April and May when the plant is mature. They are a bit small, but the small size is compensated by the strong scent they emit. Unfortunately, the flowers signal the end of the spring for the plant.

Sunlight – The plant likes a lot of sun. It can do fine in a partial sun position too.

Watering – The plant is drought-tolerant, and great care should be taken not to overwater.

Plant Care – If winter temperatures drop below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, keeping them as an indoor plant, or bringing them inside over winter is recommended. Over-fertilizing, just like over-watering, can result in root rot or the formation of powdery mildew on these succulents.
